Customer Supplied Gemstone Policy
Setting Your Personal Gemstone
At Jamming Gems, we are happy to create custom jewelry using gemstones supplied by our customers. Many clients choose to use heirloom stones, sentimental gems, or gemstones purchased elsewhere to create a one-of-a-kind piece.
Because customer-supplied stones come from many different sources, we have a few policies in place to ensure a smooth and transparent process.
Stone Identification
Customer-supplied gemstones are accepted based on the identification provided by the customer.
While our team has extensive experience working with gemstones, Jamming Gems does not guarantee gemstone identification unless a formal gemological report is requested.
During our intake process we may note observations about the gemstone’s appearance, but these notes are for documentation purposes only and should not be considered a formal gem identification.
Intake Documentation
To protect both our customers and our workshop, all gemstones received are documented upon arrival.
This process includes:
- Recording the stone type provided by the customer
- Observing the stone’s visible characteristics
- Photographing the gemstone
- Documenting any visible inclusions, abrasions, or chips
These records help ensure that the same gemstone received is returned to the customer once the project is completed.
Condition of Customer Stones
Customer supplied gemstones may already have wear, abrasions, chips, or internal characteristics that can affect durability during setting.
While our jewelers take every precaution when handling gemstones, setting always carries some level of risk, especially with previously owned stones.
By submitting a gemstone for setting, the customer acknowledges that:
- Pre-existing damage may be present
- Some gemstones are more fragile than others
- Jamming Gems cannot guarantee against damage during setting
Right to Decline Setting
In some cases, gemstones may be determined to be unsuitable for the requested setting due to structural concerns such as severe inclusions, fractures, thin girdles, or prior damage.
Jamming Gems reserves the right to decline setting any gemstone if our jewelers determine that setting the stone may create an unreasonable risk of damage.
Gemstones Purchased From Third Parties
Jamming Gems is not responsible for gemstone quality, authenticity, or grading for stones purchased from third-party sellers.
Many gemstones purchased online or through marketplaces may be inaccurately described. If we notice characteristics that appear inconsistent with the description provided, we may notify the customer before proceeding.
